Perinatal Care measures focuses on achieving integrated, coordinated, patient-centered care for clinically uncomplicated pregnancies and births.

In late 2007, 91㽶Ƶ’s Board of 91㽶Ƶers recommended retiring and replacing the Pregnancy and Related Conditions (PR) measure set with an expanded set of evidenced-based measures. A technical advisory panel (TAP) comprising experts in the perinatal care field was convened in February 2009 to select the replacement set of measures from among those endorsed for national use by the National Quality Forum. The measure maintenance process is guided by expertise and advice provided by the Perinatal Care Measure Maintenance Technical Advisory Panel.

The chart abstracted Perinatal Care measures were re-endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF) on November 20, 2020. The following are Perinatal Care chart abstracted measures used by 91㽶Ƶ.

91㽶Ƶ’s Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care requires the use of this set of standardized performance measures in order to meet the performance measurement requirements for certification.

  • PC-01/ePC-01 Elective Delivery
  • PC-02*/ePC-02 Cesarean Section
  • PC-05/ePC-05 Exclusive Human Milk Feeding
  • PC-06*/ePC-06 Unexpected Complications in Term Newborns

*The perinatal program is required to meet threshold criteria for performance rates on PC-02 and PC-06.1 (severe rate only). Performance rates must meet the following threshold criteria:

  • PC-02 Cesarean Birth: aggregate rate of less than or equal to 30% (0.30)
  • PC-06.1 (severe rate): aggregate rate of less than 50 complications per 1,000 live births (aggregate performance rate calculation multiplied by 1,000)
